The 220H was created to serve the small component machining industry, in particular the rise of humanoid robotics. We observed that current machine tools are either too large and expensive or too small, lacking rigidity and features for machining small precision components for industry. The reason for this was not a lack of demand but a fundamental limitation in the Cast Iron machine tool design. To achieve a high stiffness for high material removal rates in a material with high damping, machines had to be made a certain size which drove the cost.
Our material breakthrough allows us to shrink the machine down while maintaining high static and dynamic rigidity required to achieve high material removal rates, mirror surface finishes and long tool life. These 3 factors are what separate the Samurai 220H from all other machines in its size class, making it suitable for industry.

The frame material innovation created a cascading need to rethink the entire machines design. There is no point having a highly capable machine with a slow or low capacity tool changer. This led to the development of the Samurai Type 1 ATC. Its difference lies in the way it compacts the toolholder forks as much as possible, while only moving one tool per tool change.
By splitting the tool changer into 4 individually servo driven carousels, the 220H is capable of not only the largest tool capacity but also the highest speed. A tool change only requires movement of an individual tool, rather than the entire carousel; this enables the fastest tool changing times in the world.
Calling the furthest stacked tool takes a maximum of 5 seconds to reach the spindle, keeping your setup times limited.
With 64 capacity, you can design a tooling system for production or prototyping, depending on your needs. Keep duplicate tools to run lights out production or store a variety to remove tool setup times.
With an all metal design and ALT up to 5 million cycles, you can count on the Type 1 ATC to meet all your machining needs.

Every Samurai 220H is shipped with a full inspection report containing geometric alignment test results, linear positioning and ball bar verification.
We don't shim machines into perfection, we close the feedback loop from machine inspection to manufacturing ensuring the machines are manufactured correctly from the start.
Our tolerances exceed the typical requirement for a #40 taper machine tool, and are in a different league to any similarly sized machine.
